Laminate flooring installation

Laminate flooring installation is one of the most popular and effective methods to refresh the interior of your home or office.

Laminate floors are known for their high durability and low maintenance. Additionally, laminate flooring is available in many design variations on the market. Once you’ve chosen your desired pattern, the next step is the installation of the laminate flooring. We are happy to assist you with this.

How is laminate flooring installation carried out?

Many people forget that before installation, it’s a good idea to let the laminate flooring acclimate. Therefore, do not unpack the boards. Leave them in a horizontal position in the room where the temperature is at least 18°C for at least 2 days.

Laminate flooring installation requires a firm and dry surface that is free from any dirt, debris, or remnants of old flooring. We pay great attention to this. An uneven subfloor can lead to cracking or warping of the laminate boards or even breaking the tongue-and-groove joint.

After leveling the subfloor (using filler, leveling compounds, and similar materials), we get to work. First, we lay down a moisture barrier to protect against dampness. We also recommend using foam PE foil, cork, or another material that contributes to noise insulation.

We pay great attention to laying the first row of laminate along the wall. Laminate boards are typically installed parallel to the direction of light. We also make sure to use expansion wedges to maintain the gaps between the laminate boards and the wall. The expansion joints are usually 10–15 mm wide (as laminate flooring, like wooden or vinyl flooring, expands and contracts due to temperature changes).

We gradually snap the laminate boards together from their front side. We secure them using a hammer and a wooden tapping block. The boards are tapped together first along the length and then across. We take great care to ensure that no gaps appear when tapping the boards together, as even the smallest irregularities will transfer to the next laminate boards.

This process continues for the laminate flooring installation until we reach the last row. For this row, we usually need to cut the laminate boards using a circular saw, jigsaw, or laminate cutter. The boards at the ends of each row generally need to be trimmed. The cut pieces are not discarded; they are used to start the next rows. To maintain both the aesthetics and stability of the floor, we always ensure that the cut piece is at least 40 cm long.

Laminate flooring installation also includes addressing so-called critical areas such as door frames and pipes around radiators. We meticulously trim the laminate boards so that they fit perfectly around the frames or pipes, ensuring that the overall appearance of the floor is not compromised.

The final step is the installation of skirting boards and transition strips.
